Biography

Chaouki Daher is the General Manager and Head of Private Banking at Dukhan Bank (IBQ), with 19 years of experience in Private Banking.
Chaouki is responsible for the Private Banking division and wealth management and has been instrumental in the growth and profitability of the division during his time as head. He has helped introduce a range of new services and innovative product solutions for HNWI and UHNWI, for which Dukhan Bank (IBQ) has received various international and prestigious accolades for its exceptional Private Banking services from Euromoney, International Banker Middle East.

Chaouki joined Dukhan Bank (IBQ) in 1998 when it was ANZ Grindlays Bank, as an Assistant Relationship Manager in Private Banking, and held senior managerial positions in the private banking business, throughout which he has built a solid and experienced team serving private banking clientele in Qatar. Chaouki is also the secretary of the Dukhan Bank (IBQ) board of directors since 2007.
Chaouki is a graduate of Business Administration, with Honour, from the University of North Carolina, USA. He held previously directorship positions in local & listed companies in Qatar representing the Bank.

Banking

In simple words, Banking can be defined as the business activity of accepting and safeguarding money owned by other individuals and entities and then lending out this money in order to earn a profit. However, with the passage of time, the activities covered by banking business have widened and now various other services are also offered by banks. The banking services these days include issuance of debit and credit cards, providing safe custody of valuable items, lockers, ATM services and online transfer of funds across the country/world.

Retail Banking

Retail banking, also known as consumer banking, is the typical mass-market banking in which individual customers use local branches of larger commercial banks. Services offered include savings and checking accounts, mortgages, personal loans, debit/credit cards and certificates of deposit (CDs).

Credit Risk

A credit risk is the risk of default on a debt that may arise from a borrower failing to make required payments. In the first resort, the risk is that of the lender and includes lost principal and interest, disruption to cash flows, and increased collection costs. The loss may be complete or partial. In an efficient market, higher levels of credit risk will be associated with higher borrowing costs. Because of this, measures of borrowing costs such as yield spreads can be used to infer credit risk levels based on assessments by market participants.

They provide various types of financial services, such as proprietary trading or trading securities for their own accounts, mergers and acquisitions advisory which involves helping organisations in M&As,; leveraged finance that involves lending money to firms to purchase assets and settle acquisitions, restructuring that involves improving structures of companies to make a business more efficient and help it make maximum profit, and new issues or IPOs, where these banks help new firms go public.

Risk Management

Risk management is the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks followed by coordinated and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control the probability and/or impact of unfortunate events or to maximize the realization of opportunities. Risk management’s objective is to assure uncertainty does not deflect the endeavor from the business goals.

Credit

Credit the ability of a customer to obtain goods or services before payment, based on the trust that payment will be made in the future.

Private Equity

Private equity typically refers to investment funds organized as limited partnerships that are not publicly traded and whose investors are typically large institutional investors, university endowments, or wealthy individuals. Private equity firms are known for their extensive use of debt financing to purchase companies, which they restructure and attempt to resell for a higher value. Debt financing reduces corporate tax burdens and is one of the principal ways in which private equity firms make business more profitable for investors. Private equity might also create value by overcoming agency costs and better aligning the incentives of corporate managers with those of their shareholders.
